5th Grade Update

Hi Everyone!!

I thought since we are halfway through our school year, now would be a good time to share some updates on how the kiddos are doing. Today i'm starting with Super Guy, who is in 5th Grade. I still can't believe he is already in 5th grade.

Here is how the school year has been going for him.

This was our first year of trying out A Beka Book's Read & Comprehend Skills Sheets 5. It's timed reading exercises followed by a comprehension quiz. I have to say that i really liked this for him. I think it helped a lot to improve his reading skills.

I didn't test him at the beginning of the year to see his reading level and i really wish i would have. However, i did just test him the other day and he is reading at a 6th grade level!! :)

We are still using Math-U-See for our math curriculum, which i absolutely love. It makes teaching math so much easier, especially when you have several children at different grade levels. Super Guy however does not love it, but he really struggles with math so i don't think he would like any math curriculum.

This year we have really gotten into using the Rosetta Stone Language curriculum i purchased a few years ago.

He has been doing great on it! His Spanish vocabulary has definitely increased.

Everything else has been going pretty great too; Science, History, Handwriting, Vocab, Bible, Art. He is excelling in them all. :)

As far as things he is struggling with, i would say the main thing would be writing. He doesn't like to do any writing at all.

Coming up with what to write and how to write it, is a big fight with him. Mostly when it comes to English assignments (book reports, letters, etc.)

And although he doesn't like math, because he hasn't totally mastered his multiplication facts and so it takes him awhile to finish math assignments, he still does really well.

So that's how our school year has been going so far, it's shaping up to be one of our best years yet! :)

Happy Chinese New Year 2016!!

Gung Hay Fat Choy!! {Happy New Year}

We love celebrating Chinese New Year. It's so much fun!

We started our morning out by reading two books about Chinese New Year:

Then, after we did some of our regular school work, we did some of the printables from my Chinese New Year Pack and they also colored in their own Chinese zodiac animal bookmark, from my Chinese New Year Bookmarks.

Here are a few pictures of the kiddos using my Chinese New Year Pack last year.

Super Guy working on a coloring page, he is coloring the Rooster (which is his Chinese Zodiac animal).

Jelly Bean coloring her Chinese Zodiac animal, the rabbit.

Boogie Man's drawing page, for what he would do with a red envelope filled with money.

After a lunch break, we painted paper plate monkey's. I got the idea for that from The Pinterested Parent.

That was about it for our Chinese New Year celebration, i definitely did a lot more last year for the kids. This year Chinese New Year kinda sneaked up on me.

Anyways, i hope you all a very happy Chinese New Year! :)

February Menu Plan {Freebie}

Hi Everyone!!

Can you believe it's February already?! January just seemed to fly by for me.

February is one of the busiest months for us, just because there are so many holidays/fun days and also one of my son's has a birthday in February.

So i thought one way to make this month go a lot smoother, would be to make a menu plan.

You'll notice i only put dinners on my menu plan, because for Breakfast and Lunch i usually buy what's on sale that week and use it for those meals.

You can download my February Menu Plan for yourself, HERE!!

Enjoy!
