I recently tried Walmart's free grocery pickup service (i know, i'm totally late to the party) and i thought i would let you know my experience.
The first thing that really struck me was how easy it was to use. A few clicks and you have a "cart" full of groceries. I placed my order in the evening and the next morning i was able to pick it up. I never even had to get out of my car. I also love that it is a free service!
The prices were comparable to what they have in store. Which is different if you have used something like Albertson's grocery delivery, whose prices are higher online than if you were to shop in their store.
I also really like that with using this service there is less of a chance that you will buy things you don't need. So many times with shopping in store i add extra stuff in my cart that i really didn't need, but because i was either hungry or had a child with me who wanted a certain product i end up buying more.
So to recap the pros - It's easy, prices are the same in store & online, could potentially save money (not buying extra food or unhealthy food), and it's also a free service!
A few things that i have noticed that i don't like...
- You can't inspect things like eggs for example. In my order, one of my eggs were cracked.
- Produce isn't what i would pick out myself. I'm super picky with what apples to grab or bananas or avocados. In my order, some of my apples were bruised and my avocados were too green.
- Sizes. I really didn't pay much attention to sizes, so i ended up buying a little container of oats, when i thought it would be a regular size.
- You can only pay with debit/credit cards. If you use like the cash envelop system, or if you just like paying cash for things, you can't do that with this service.
