Homemade Laundry Detergent
Last month we had, what i like to call, a "Life Skill day". In other words i had a ton of laundry to do.
On this "Life Skill Day" we learned how to make our own homemade laundry detergent and then i taught the kids how to use the washer and dryer.
Here is how you make homemade liquid laundry detergent, or at least how we make it.
Step 1:
Grate a bar of soap (we used Fels-Naptha, you can find it in your local grocery store laundry isle)
Step 2:
Put grated soap into a large pot and then add enough water to the pot, but not too much to where it will overflow. (I forgot to take a picture of it with water added) Boil over medium/high heat, stirring constantly, until soap is all dissolved and its smooth.
Step 3:
In a 5 gallon bucket (i used my Hubby's old paint buckets, obviously i washed/cleaned them out first) pour in 2 cups of Borax and 2 cups of Washing Soda. Once your soap water mixture is ready, add it to the 5 gallon bucket. Then fill the 5 gallon bucket with warm water all the way to the top. Add a lid to it and let it sit overnight. Then the next day pour half of your laundry mixture into another 5 gallon bucket, then top them both off with warm water. Then add lids to them and they are ready to use.
And because things get a little crazy around here i totally forgot to take some pictures during the process, but here is what i did capture.
