How To Name Your Homeschool {and why you should}

When i first started homeschooling my children, i didn't even think about having a name for our homeschool. But as our homeschooling continued it became clear we were going to need a name.

If you are just starting out with homeschooling and you are thinking about giving yourself a name, i'm here to give you some help with coming up with a good name.

And if you are just starting out and don't feel like you need a name, i'm here to help give you some reasons as to why you need one.

First let's start with the why...

  • Some states require that you have a homeschool name (for umbrella programs and such)
  • Pizza Hut Book It! program and Scholastic Reading Club are just some of the few educational programs that require you to have a name.
  • Student ID cards need to have a homeschool name on them.
  • High School transcripts will need a homeschool name on them.

So now that you know a few reasons as to why it's a good idea to have a homeschool name, let's talk about how to come up with one.  Here are a few of my suggestions...

  • use your Street/City/Subdivision Name - Rosewood School, First Academy
  • use your Last Name - Anderson Academy, Smith School,
  • use a Famous Person - Lincoln Academy, George Washington School
  • use your Faith/Religion - Faith Christian School
I personally went with the name of our subdivision we were living in at the time. Our homeschool name is Summerfield Academy

If you've come up with a homeschool name, comment below i'd love to hear it!
