Mardi Gras & Chinese New Year

Gung Hay Fat Choy! (Or Happy New Year!)

Today is Mardi Gras ("Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, refers to events of the Carnival celebration, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday" - Wikipedia) and today is also Chinese New Year ("the Chinese festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar" - Wikipedia).

I took that picture back in 2015 when we went all out for Chinese New Year. This year our celebration will be low key.

This Chinese New Year is the year of the Pig. If you were born in: 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, and 2019 then you have the Pig for your zodiac sign. If you are a Pig, you are smart and sincere!

We don't really celebrate Mardi Gras, occasionally i will tell the kids "hey it's Mardi Gras today, let's wear some beads", but that usually happens every other year or every two years.

Tonight we might eat some Chinese food, but probably not because i forgot about Chinese New Year when i was making my February menu plan. Most Friday's we eat Asian inspired dishes, so i could take Fridays meal and make it tonight, but we'll see what happens.

And if i wasn't trying to lose weight, then i might make a King Cake that Pinterest keeps showing me.

English Peas

I've never had a King Cake, but they sure do look good!

Are you celebrating Mardi Gras or Chinese New Year? Let me know how you celebrate!
